Fat Loss vs. Weight Loss

Nick Nilsson on Fat Burning

How to Spot Reduce and Burn ONLY the Fat Off Your Stomach...

By Nick Nilsson

I'll share with you my top-secret technique for burning ONLY the fat off your
stomach. This is spot-reducing at its best...you can even apply
this technique to ANY other specific areas you want to tone up!

Yep, it's exciting and I know you're curious so I'll get right into it!

To perform this technique, you're going to need a roll of duct tape, 3 double cheeseburgers, a set of jumper cables and a housecat...

Ok, you're going to hate me for this...

The truth is there IS no top-secret technique for spot reducing and burning only the fat from your stomach. I made that headline up in hopes that you would at least read far enough into this article to learn the TRUTH about how your body burns fat and WHERE it burns fat from (and I'll try to keep it entertaining so you actually want to read the whole thing :) ).

And honestly, this type of question is one of THE most frequently asked questions I've gotten in all the years I've been answering questions online...

"How do I get rid of fat from just my [insert area here]?"

Bottom line is, you can't. And even those stupid creams and lotions won't do it (one of these days I swear I'm going to get one of those creams and put it only on the left side of my abs and not the right and see what happens...I'm sure I'll have a ripped 3 pack within days).

To lose fat from any one specific place in your body, you're going to have to lose it from EVERYWHERE ELSE, too. There's really no getting around it.

I like to use the analogy of a swimming pool (I "borrowed" this one from fat-loss guru Tom Venuto)...

When you're filling up a swimming pool (the pool is your total amount of body fat), the deep end fills up first, right? Then the shallow end fills up as the water level rises.

Generally speaking, the deep end can be compared to the areas where you put on fat FIRST. The shallow end is where you put on fat LAST.

When you go to lose fat, look at the swimming pool again...when you drain the swimming pool, you can't drain water from just the deep end! It drains from the whole pool at once...the shallow end shows it first, THEN the deep end last.

So basically (and fairly depressingly!), the fat you want to get rid of FIRST is the fat that's going to come off pretty much LAST. To burn just stomach fat (or thigh fat or back fat), you'd have to figure out a way to defeat the entire system your body uses to store fat.

Sticking a vacuum into your belly with surgery is one way to do it - taking useless pills like Acai Berry definitely WON'T do it, no matter how many "simple rules" you follow (in that case, the simple rule is "give us all your money so you can't afford food anymore" - I guess that one actually WILL work).

And that's not even all your options for losing stomach fat...

1. Starvation dieting - this is THE best way to lose weight...of course, it'll be mostly muscle, which will send your metabolism into a nosedive, which will make it harder to continue to lose weight, which will make it easier to REGAIN weight, which will keep that lovely stomach fat firmly where you left it, even though the precious scale shows a smaller number...oops, somebody changed the calibration on it...you actually weigh more now...never mind.

2. Diet pills - pretty much all of these will work for you, especially the ones that say you can eat anything you want and still lose weight (just make sure you're never more than 15 feet from a bathroom). You know the manufacturers are only interested in your success and well-being, after all! And don't forget, the heart is a muscle and the faster it goes, the more calories you burn, right! Who wouldn't want to have their heart-rate up in the "training zone" while they're sleeping...talk about efficiency!

3. High Impact Aerobics For Beginners - the good news is, soft tissue injuries require a LOT of calories to heal up, so bust out those Step Tae Bosu Dance tapes and go nuts!

Okay, let's move on to some of the more "radical, unproven" stuff ;)...

1. Eating natural, wholesome foods - what a crock! The only thing anybody has ever lost from eating this garbage is fat. Oh wait...

2. Weight training - even more useless than good nutrition, weight training is something to stay away from. All it will do is build muscle and increase your metabolism. Total B.S. Same with interval training...it's the worst.

3. Supplementing with multivitamins, minerals, fish oil and protein - I know...I can't make this stuff up! Some people actually USE these things to support their nutrition while eating natural foods and training with weights for fat loss. I guess their quack doctors wouldn't write out a prescription for Orlistat or Xenical or Gottapoopital.

So bottom line, fat loss isn't rocket science...just don't eat anything, take a lot of pills and thrash around for hours on end until you hurt yourself.

A little Poem to think about

True Beauty is Not Seen

Where does the true beauty lie?
Within the heart, not the eye
The eye deceives and the eye is blind
It is the soul where answers you will find
Not to search beyond the skin; a disgrace
The beauty within, not upon a face
But what is beauty? It is falsly termed
Beauty is not born, Beauty it is earned
Carry the true beauty within your heart
Never from your lips let anger depart
Within people you trust, always confide
And always search for the beauty, that lies inside

Glaedr the Poet

"Fear is the absence of Faith."
St.Augustine of Antioch

Faith is the Light at Night

Faith is invisible to the naked eye,
it is light that we follow when we go astray.
Faith turns time and makes even some people ryhme.
Disoriented faith can cause wars, deaths, turmoil
but it can redeem and give a person a reason to believe.
To believe in others, in today, in tommorow, in change, and give strength
to those who were once weak. Faith is our armor against fear.
Fear of death for some and fear of rejection for others.
Whatever way you look at it faith is a dynamic action,
which controls every action or reaction. So take a chance
believe you can achieve and have faith in the lion inside of you!
Have faith in love, life, and in yourself.
Even when it is the darkest of nights a lighthouse will shine the way for the sailors at bay!

Paying it Forward!

By: Octaviano Luis Longoria, CPT (NASM), CES (NASM)

Have you ever helped anybody out with asking anything in return?
We all have problems and go through difficult times at some point but we mostly have it pretty easy and either way there is always someone in a worst position. Why not give a lending hand? Anyways on to my story. Last night my brother Diego and I where on the way to pick up the motorcycle because Diego had conveniently lost the keys earlier that day, fortunately for us we found the spare keys.

On the way there was a subway and I was hungry so naturally we stopped. I was carb loading because I am running a half a marathon this sunday and you should not be eating these sandwiches at these hours if you are looking for weight loss. Nevertheless we were waiting in line to order when a man walked in and asked if anyone had a gas tank he could use. His car had given out on him as he was pulling in.

At first I am not going to lie we hesitated because we had to go back home, pick up the gas tank, come back and then go for the motorcycle but we set our selfish desires aside and we decided to help the man.

While I ordered the sandwich my brother went for the tank and once he came back we gave the man enough gas to get him rolling. He offered us some money which was a gesture of respect but naturally we had to decline instead as compensation we told him to pay it forward. Of course I specified clearly that before he helps someone else he had to do something for himself. I truly believe that we all have good intentions at heart and try to help others always but we really can't help or be helped until we help ourselves.

About a year ago I was living in my selfish desires and until I didn't let myself be helped or help myself there was no way I was going to break the cycle of bad habits I had created. When I realized this was when I decided to go as a co-worker in a catholic radio station and since then have been reforming myself, mentally, physically, and spiritualy. I put my selfish desires aside got rid of my bad habits by replacing them with good ones and since then been able to start this website, get my certifications, and my words have been able to reach you and hundreds of others hopefully!

So I challenge you to pay it forward every day of your life by first taking care of yourself (eating right, exercise, etc) and then by helping others a.k.a. performing a good deed for anyone someone random, a co-worker, or your family (by being there for someone when they need it the most, passing on the good habits of exercise, eating right, etc). Being a positive example by choosing to live for a better is a good deed in its own for yourself and that way you can help others achieve the same goals.Living for a better you is a dynamic action that plays a role in every day of our lives whether we choose to help or hurt ourselves is our choice!

The Optomist V.S. The Pessimist

By: Octaviano Luis Longoria, CPT (NASM)and CES(NASM)
Can a smile save a life? I believe it can and if we just try to be a little more positive or just nicer to the people and our enviorment I firmly believe we could get rid of a lot of the negative energy harboring in our society! Racism, depression, and even suicide are brought on by ourselves through our negative actions and if we create positive actions we will get positive reactions!

Everyday when a person wakes up they are encountered with a choice to either be an optimistic or a pessimistic person. One has the decision to define the right side of the bed as always on the right or if there is no right and if it is really in the attitude just like if the cup is always have full or half empty. The choice to be optimistic is a decision to expect the worst but hope for the best instead of bringing upon the worst by being a pessimist and not giving success a fighting chance. People never really give thought to how thinking positively or negatively can really affect the outcome of their day, if it plays a role in success, or if it is the reason why people flock towards or away from them.

How about we take a little more in depth dive about the attributes of an optimistic and the pessimistic person by analyzing how positive and negative thinking can affect us in everyday life situations. A positive person always looks at the upside of things therefore struggles for success because in his eyes it is plausible while negative people immediately rejects the thought and limit themselves. An optimistic person does not believe in limits rather mental blocks while a pessimistic person creates an impenetrable wall in his head and believes that is truly as far as he will go not knowing that his body is a machine and our brain the motherboard has unlimited power.

A person’s subconscious mind influences our actions, thoughts, and reactions in every which way. When comparing rhetoric from a positive to a negative thinker you are encountered with many different word choices that affect and create those mental blocks that stop people from reaching their full potential or expanding their limits. Lets say for an example we have two people; one the optimistic go lucky Steve and the other the pessimistic always grumpy Bob and they are rock climbing both of equal stature in skill, strength, and height. There is a particular wall that is especially difficult and neither can get up so Bob quits and says “I cannot do it”, immediately his subconscious mind registers that this obstacle is impossible to overcome. On the other hand you have Steve that says “I cannot do it yet” and his subconscious mind registers this as not impossible but not yet plausible and trains to come back. Steve comes back and overcomes this obstacle a week later while Bob had come to terms with the fact that he could not do it and gave up right at the get go.

“Do not let the negativity given to you by the world disempower you. Instead give to yourself that which empowers you.” When we engulf ourselves in negative thoughts we are blinding ourselves to the possibility that there might be another way to go up that wall. The attitude that Bob choose ultimately stopped him from reaching the top but Bob himself is a dynamic person and has the choice to change his attitude at any moment. If Bob decided to become more aware of his thoughts, on how they affected his performance, personal life, and overall happiness he would realize that there is already enough negativity in the world and there is no need to add to it. If Bob where a little more optimistic like Steve and would not have given up he himself would have reached the top like Steve and would not be asking himself for the rest of his life, “What if?”

Positive thinking implies moving forward, while negative thinking implies regressing. In a world where everything goes 100mph it is essential for people to open their minds to new ideas, ways of running a business, or even their definition of success. An optimistic person acknowledges that there are no failure only results and that true success isn’t in the final product rather in the actual process. There are so many benefits in thinking positively that it doesn’t make sense to even consider to be a pessimistic person or be around them because there are only drawbacks to that type of thinking that ultimately lead to self destruction.
